What are my passions?

I mentioned previously that one of the things that I would like is to “reignite my passions”. I felt as though I had forgotten how much pleasure some activities give me. What had caused this, I’m unsure. Was this a pandemic induced rut, that I expect a lot of people can relate to — our liberties being taken away caused some of us to not know what to do with our time to be happy (it also perhaps caused us to realise what we were doing was just letting time pass by rather than being happy with how we were spending it). Or was this due to the impact of modern technology, which has impacted our ability to pay attention to what we are doing; and it has been shown that it is difficult to obtain pleasure from an activity without it having your full attention.

I’ve thought about some of the things that I am passionate about and make me enjoy being alive, and I think I can group them into the four activities I list below:

  • Intellectually stimulating activities — reading and learning about the world, applying maths to the real life problems.
  • Sensually stimulating activities — listening to some great music, eating some good food, moving my body whilst doing yoga.
  • Creative activities — cooking or learning/performing magic tricks.
  • Activities that shared with other people — this can often be combined with some of the other activities, for example eating with others, playing games/sports, or simply just shared laughter.

The word “passion” that I’ve used throughout this post is quite debatable — is it something that you simply enjoy and want to spend your time doing, or is there a certain threshold and more to it than that? Either way, I’m hoping that this blog can give me somewhere to look back at if I ever feel like I’m in a rut again, and perhaps this can also help others find their forgotten passions.
