I’m a big believer in minimalism, because of the simplicity, intentionality and freedom that it brings. No subreddit encompasses this better in my view than r/onebag — just posts and pictures from people who can fit their life’s possessions into a single bag. I don’t think I’d be able to go that far, but I think travel is one of the best ways to practice the art of r/onebag — and that’s exactly what I did when I went to the south of France for 4 nights earlier this month and took just a 20L carry on bag.

Below is a list of what was in my bag— I have split it into three sections: clothes, toiletries and miscellaneous. I should also add that on the flight I was wearing jeans, shoes, a jumper and a light jacket.

Clothes:

  • Underwear x5
  • Socks x8 (six trainer socks and two normal)
  • Sport shorts x2 (one for sleeping and one for daily outdoor stuff)
  • Nicer pair of shorts x1
  • T-shirts x5
  • Sliders
  • Cap

Toiletries:

  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste
  • Floss
  • Tweezers
  • Moisturiser
  • Eye Cream
  • SPF
  • Shampoo
  • Shower gel
  • Face wash
  • Vaseline

Misc:

  • Phone
  • Wallet
  • Keys
  • Passport
  • Watch
  • Playing cards
  • Paracetamol
  • Tea bags x2 (very important)
  • Water bottle
  • Glasses, sunglasses and prescription sunglasses
  • Charger
  • EU plug adaptor
  • Battery pack
  • Bullet journal
  • Book
  • Disposable contact lenses x6
  • Inhaler
  • Tennis ball
  • Pen
  • Paper
  • Earphones
  • Peg
  • Wash bag for dirty clothes
